Misconceptions about Asana and Yoga in common man's mind
In present time when we talk about yoga the common man only think about Asana because in last 5 decade , Asana is the most commonly used and showed to the world.
Common people think that
Practice of Asana is yoga
But we need to understand that Asana and yoga these are two different things. Asana is a physical practice and yoga is a 10 times bigger then Asana so we have to understand that Asana is just a a small part of yogic practice.
If we discuss about the Ashtang yoga Defined by sage Patanjali there are eight Limbs which are defined in Yoga Sutra:
There are 8 parts of yoga according to Patanjal Yoga Sutra:
1.Yama
2.Niyama
3. Asana
4. Pranayama
5.pratyahara
6.dharana
7.Dhyan
8.Samadhi.
So in Patanjal Yoga Sutra Asana is just part of yoga.
In Hatha Yoga Asana is more essential because the goal of Hatha yoga is to
Control the mind by the practice of body,
in Hatha Yoga the practitioner do the several practices which enhance the physical power and helps to control the mind.
Actually Patanjali didn't define the practice of asana or the technique of asana or the number of asana.
As the time changes after sage Patanjali in the era of Hatha yoga the Asana is described in a broad manner infact in some text of Hatha yoga Asana is the first part of yogic practice.
From Asana we can achieve the highest capacity of mind body and soul.
